I also have an aviary with a flock of Zebra finches which have just started prducing this years offspring. Its quite a thing to watch the young birds developing and taking their first flight.

Re: Whats your Hobby
Hi sleepy0905.You probably know this already so I apologise in advance but the British Horological Institute is based in Upton midway between Newark and Southwell. They are not generally open to the public except,I think, twice a year at the beginning and end of British Summer Time. However, they may give a special guided tour if you ask nicely Not only is it their headquarters but has a difinitive library on all things to do with watches/clocks and as a fabulous collection of grandfather clocks and other notable timepieces such as the 'speaking clock'. They have 'full' workshops and I understand that they do courses. There was certainly demonstrations when I looked round last year.
Even if you knew all that,I can recommend a visit to anyone that may read this post as its only a short distance from Lincoln.

horology
As an apprentice in london in the mid fifties I discovered the Wallace Collection which was located in Manchester Square. All museums were free then and this particular site had a room with about 250 working clocks from the last 500 years all of which were kept in good order. You had to be there at a certain time: when all the clocks struck the hour the the noise was 'effening deafening, a fantastic symphony of sound. Mid-day was the best as the hour chimes were the longest. Wiser heads than mine have mentioned Upton which despite its restricted opening times is well worth a visit. Check first and then a bus or train to Newark will get you on the Southwell service which runs through Upton.sleepy0905 wrote:well i have started my favorite hobby again which is Horology The Science of time ( watch and clocks Repair) so if anyone has any mechanical watches or clocks they no longer want i will be gratefull dead or alive.
May all your escapements "beat even".
Regards,
Arkley.

I do envy you sleepy; I only ever had one mum! Do you regret winding them up so often?, when can they have their clothes back after you've stripped them?
If you need any help with a clock (not a watch), then 50 years familiarity with the science and the beauty of timekeeping can be at your disposal on receipt of an e-mail. Be aware always that society would be in ruins without accurate time-keeping. Our lives are governed by a digital master that never sleeps; happier days saw the the clock running down at the dimming of the day, evenings were a time to slow down and reflect. Now of course I can be served exotic vegetables from faraway places, flown here by air from poverty stricken countries who's workers slowly starve on the pittance they receive from our high street retailers; "come and work for the minimum wage" the supermarkets cry, give up your time with your family and serve (apologies to Seahorse) "the god of greed who serves the rich while poor men starve".What happened to that day of (non-religious) rest when hands could be held and jokes could be shared and children could be carried aloft on fathers shoulders? is retail therapy the answer to the gradual decline of honest relationships? Throw your loyalty cards away and get out there to these parks this weekend; show your kids the sky and the earth and be aware that if you stand still then Seahorse will plant you and if you move then Combom has you on film.
