On Christmas eve 1980, my late wife went into Lincoln to buy a pair of wellies for the eldest daughters Guide camp trip. When she returned i offered to wrap them for her but noticed that one was a 5 and the other a 7. She rushed back into town and on her return, said that she would wrap them herself as i only brought her bad luck. 3 minutes later there was an almighty shriek from the kitchen as she discovered that, although there were now two size 5's, they were both left feet. The shoe shop of course was now closed. You couldn't make it up.
