Fire Destroys Mosque Plans at St. Matthews Methodist Church Boultham Park Road

A Lincoln church which was going to be turned into a mosque has been severely damaged by a fire.

Crews from across the county tackled the blaze at St Matthew's, on Boultham Park Road, in the early hours.

such a shame, the council will now allow a building to be a attraction to drug dealers and vandels such a waste better it was to be turned into something better but now the fire prevents this

I wonder what percentage the chance was that it was arson either by proposers or opposers!!!

Will this now mean that with a listed building on the site gone that the mosque can be built free of constraint with a shiny gold dome on the top?

we had the same discussion yesterday afternoon

I doubt the Muslim community would want to alienate themselves by committing arson, especially as they've gone to a lot of expense and trouble re the purchase and plans!

No problem for me but I dont think the people who live round there would be too keen. They are not overly happy about the idea to use the original church to say the least. I know womeone who lives closeby and is unhappy because his house price has fallen quicker than the rest of Lincoln over the past year and is predicted to fall a lot more than the average once the mosque is complete!!!

if you go to the (now ruined) church, it has no car parking, and the surrounding area is full of parked vehicles, IMHO it needs somewhere with car parking.

Things like parking issues are fair enough (I presume there'll be no room for parking at the mosque either?) but I wonder how much of it is that the government and media have focused on the tiny percentage of extremists within the religion and whipped us all into a frenzy of fear and mistrust? (Meanwhile hoping that will distract us from other economic and social issues, no doubt!).

Sounds like a great site for a wind turbine????
