Re: people like her make me mad
Just wondering... it's also quite often in the news that women from certain sections of certain religions end up coerced or 'suprised' into trips abroad against their will. It doesn't *sound* like that's what happened here...but you never know.

Re: people like her make me mad
IMO the "people must respect our culture" argument is always rattle out on these occassions. Put her in jail and then tell her to respect her children I say.
I sued to house share with a portuguese girl from african origin who would go to work at weekends and leave her 9 year old daughter to look after her 4 year old son. When I complained r.e. not being old old enough let alone it not being legal, she said it was normal and nothing to do with me. My wife and/or I therefore ended up spending weekends in the house because if we knowingly left them there then we were just as much in the wrong. We moved out in less than a year. She also beat them with shoes, belts etc and went to discos at night leaving them in their bedroom with a TV watching it until whatever hour they wanted and then punishing them for not being too slow/tired in the morning r.e. getting ready for school. (she would be up at 8am and wanting to leave for school at 8-15)
Always I was told Culture, culture, culture. It is more often than not used whenever they disagree with the law or others ideas. Be advised my wife is from the same background Black Portuguese first generation) and it took a lot of moaning in the early days to make her aware that watching TV tunnel visioned is not looking after a child even if you are in the same room. This was after coming home from work to find all sorts fiddled with and the "I have been here all the time" as the only response to questioning.
This is one reason that the government needs to have much more education r.e. culture for the people in this country.. However its not for us. Its the minority that need it so they can be aware of how they should act and what their responsibilities are in THIS country. Religion/Culture has no place in situations like this where children are put in danger.
